Parfait, the term parfait can have numerous meanings.

In France the term refers to a semi frozen dessert similar to the Italian semi fredo or recognisable as a frozen ice cream base.

In English speaking countries the term often refers to a smooth meat paste or a slow cooked pate made from steamed livers flavoured with cognac or brandy.

Sometimes the term parfait may refer to a layered dessert consisting of whipped cream and fruits etc.. this is more commonly an American preparation.
